Introduction

Sits ‘n Wiggles Pet Care & Training is a low-stress, modern-methods pet care and dog training company. We use the most recent research in animal behavior science to provide the highest quality care and training to our clients. We are a small family-owned company that understands the love and concern for high-quality care and training for our clients' pets.

Our customers have come to us expecting high-quality services that are not only humane but kind, low-stress, and with a personal touch––showing how we love their pets as much as they do. Our clients are dedicated pet guardians who see the importance of using positive reinforcement to improve their pet’s behavior and reduce fears and anxieties. They understand and appreciate the time and dedication we have taken to become highly educated in pet care, behavior, and training.

We are looking to borrow up to $27,200 at an interest rate of 13.25% over a 42 month term.

About Sits n Wiggles

Prior to the start of Sits n Wiggles Pet Care n Training in May 2015, Valarie and Hannah were actively involved in the dog rescue community, volunteering at their local shelter and fostering dogs through small nonprofit rescue groups. They were fostering a dog named Mitchell, and shortly after bringing him home, it became evident that he had issues interacting with other dogs. Upon researching professional advice on how to help him overcome this issue, they found that resources were limited among rescue groups. Many professional methods included very harsh methods of punishment, including shocking, choking, and withholding food. They were not comfortable with these options and continued to research. This research brought them to finding and understanding a science-based method of training and behavior consulting called positive reinforcement training. After working with a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT) to help improve Mitchell’s behavior, Valarie became interested in furthering her education about this method of training.

At the recommendation and with the support of their CPDT, Valarie started classes at Catch Canine Academy and was mentored by many brilliant modern-methods trainers, behavior consultants, and Board Certified Veterinary Behaviorists.

Sits n Wiggles Pet Care n Training has been in business since May 2015, providing a variety of pet care services including private training sessions. We've experienced wonderful growth since its start in 2015, and Valarie continues her education by attending seminars, workshops, and webinars hosted by world-renowned animal behavior experts. She also has an MBA and over 5 years of experience in running a small business. Valarie has the drive, passion, and education to bring an ambitious but achievable plan of high-quality, science-based, humane group dog training classes to Cuyahoga County.

We are looking to scale-up our business by opening Cuyahoga County’s only positive-reinforcement dog training facility. Currently, in Cuyahoga County, pet guardians only have limited options for training, including expensive in-home private sessions, low-quality big-box store training classes, or trainers that use painful methods.

Once Sits 'n Wiggles is able to open a facility, we will bridge the gap we are experiencing in Cuyahoga County. We will be offering high-quality, affordable group classes, private sessions both in the facility and in the client’s home, and day-camp training. Within the first year of opening a facility, we will responsibly increase the types and availability of services they provide. Once we have settled in with our newly offered services, we will continue to look for new and exciting ways to bring positive reinforcement training to Cuyahoga County.

Sits ‘n Wiggles Pet Care ‘n Training will be bringing a service to the community that will help improve safety. The method of training we use reduces stress, anxiety, and aggression. It increases community knowledge of how to safely and effectively interact with dogs, reducing bites and/or attacks.

Our training methods reduce the number of dogs that need to be rehomed and go through the sheltering system. When there is less pressure on the animal sheltering system community resources can be freed up to assist the community in other areas.

Equally important to the community contribution, Sits ‘n Wiggles helps families increase the bond with the dogs they share their lives with. Today’s dog guardians often see their dogs as family. Sits ‘n Wiggles focuses on building meaningful, loving, and responsible relationships through their humane, pain-free, and low-stress education and training. The average dog guardian only wants the best for their dog. By helping to build fulfilling relationships between the human family members and the canine ones, these relationships are improved with a better understanding of their dog.

By investing in Sits ‘n Wiggles Pet Care ‘n Training you’re investing in the safety of the community, improving family relationships, and improved care of American’s favorite pet.

The Project

Sits ‘n Wiggles Pet Care ‘n Training is looking to scale-up the services we are already providing. We have been providing private in-home services since May 2015. This means we have a limited number of potential clients we can reach, which limits our revenue. Also, private in-home sessions are often cost-prohibitive to potential clients.

Opening a dedicated training facility enables the possibility of reaching more clients by providing low-cost group classes where Valarie or other professional dog trainers teach a group of dog guardians on how to train their dogs themselves. Also, at the facility, we will be able to offer day-camp training, where clients drop their dogs off during the workday for Valarie and other trainers to train. We will be able to offer in-facility private sessions for a lower cost than private in-home sessions. Finally, a facility would provide another option for municipal dog shelters and nonprofit rescue groups to obtain training and behavior consults for dogs that are available for adoption. By opening a training facility, we can reach more of the community and greatly increase their earning potential.
