The Red Feather is a contemporary American farm to table restaurant located in the Oakley neighborhood of Greater Cincinnati. We offer an upscale casual dining experience with an emphasis on classic culinary techniques and slow, careful preparations. It is a perfect meeting place for after work cocktails with friends, business meetings, date nights or lavish celebrations. Warm woodwork surrounds our three separate dining areas each with its own personality, from cozy and intimate to bright and airy. We also offer an up close and intimate Chef's Table where one can watch the preparation of our cuisine and interact with our Chef/Owner. The Red Feather stands for innovation, rough luxury, and honoring those who worked hard to bring us the products that we are proud to serve and enjoy.

Postmark Restaurant is a new American restaurant with a “farmhouse refined” concept that champions the “slow food” movement – showcasing the best of local farm goods, old world ingredients & artful products, food and wine related. Working directly with merchants, farmers, & importers to preserve an epic tradition of culinary cultures and practices with thoughtfulness and purpose, Postmark is where great food and drink are honestly prepared and served. Dedication to craftsmanship is part and parcel to the Postmark Restaurant experience. The setting is re-purposed, reused, and up-cycled: worn and weathered, cozy and comfortable, yet rustic and rugged. It is filled with old world charm and nostalgia; fine dining meets farmhouse style. The postal theme (being that Postmark is located in a space that was formally a post office) is portrayed by post office antiques, prints and decor, throughout the dining room. A small additional space has been renovated into a lovely retail wine shop with a 400+ bottle catalog. Chef Bernstein’s culinary style at Postmark leans towards approachable elegance with a creative and playful appreciation of luxury. Thinking globally and sourcing locally is a staple of the Red Feather Trade Co. brand. Postmark is located in the bustling and vibrant neighborhood of the historic Gaslight Clifton area of Cincinnati – centrally located and a hop, skip and jump away from the University of Cincinnati.

We are raising $250,000 at an interest rate of 7.00%, with a six-month interest-only period and a 54 month fully amortizing period.

The Project

The funds will be used to restructure setup and sustain Red Feather Trade Co. Specifically, capital will be used to set up and open a retail wine shop, wine bar, ghost kitchen, delicatessen, larder/"grocerant" and pony keg, as well as reopening Red Feather Kitchen and Postmark Restaurant and Wine Shop. Funds will be used for set-up: we are looking to purchase production equipment, catering needs, branding, packaging, merchandising and startup inventory. Working capital is also needed to maintain cash flow, cover payroll shortages and maintenance needs as they arise.

Red Feather is going to be very different moving forward with the addition of new revenue streams and new ways to connect to our community. We will have wine retail, carryout and delivery, catering, grocery and meal prep along with a delicatessen, a upscale fine-casual restaurant and a classic French Bistro. These changes will allow us to be vertically integrated to achieve economies of scale, supply chain efficiency and maximize labor. This will be achieved by the use of Red Feather Larder as a commissary and production kitchen for all RFTC operations. While efficiently utilizing product, the inside-out approach of the "grocerant" allows us to showcase and display great product while eliminating waste by using it across all platforms of Red Feather Trade Co.

We will also be horizontally integrated to increase guest exposure, stay on trend, build our brand, guest loyalty and satisfaction. By expanding our reach over multiple platforms, guests will be able to experience the quality and consistency associated with the Red Feather brand in a multitude of platforms and accommodations.

Among other things, this raise will help us open a retail wine shop and wine bar.

Red Feather Kitchen was established in 2013 as a new American wine bar and eatery. A spirited restaurant with a new approach to classic culinary techniques and time honored traditions, Red Feather Kitchen champions "slow food" and showcasing the best local farm goods and producers as well as artful products. We work directly with local merchants, farmers and importers to preserve an epic tradition utilizing their inventory, and we have a genuine respect for a chain of good practices and thoughtfulness. The wine program highlights small family grower producers, with direct imported wines from vintner's focused on the essences of the fruit and terroir. Craft cocktails made from fresh juices, tinctures and accoutrements give new look to classics.

Red Feather Kitchen was founded on beliefs of craftsmanship and community. We are a scratch restaurant that believes in the ingredients and the people behind them. With a simple approach that is ingenious, great food and drink honestly prepared and served, Red Feather Kitchen built a solid and loyal following. We are open, friendly and considerate, trained and educated in our trade with a confidence in our products and beliefs.

In 2017, Red Feather expanded its portfolio with Postmark Restaurant. Red Feather Kitchen is "rough luxury", fine ingredients meant to be enjoyed and shared with others whereas Postmark is "approachable elegance", romantic and sensual. In 2020, Red Feather acquired Dutch's Larder and Bottle Shop with the intent of yet again expanding our reach to the community. Offering fast casual quick service and neighborhood wine bar.

After working with his family and another restauranteur to reopen the Mike Fink restaurant and the failure to do so, Chef Bernstein took a step back, worked as a line cook, rekindled his passion for the industry and set out to follow his dream of opening his own restaurant. He began working on a concept of an inside out restaurant where all ingredients were on display as part of the decorations and design of the restaurant. Making his way to signing a lease, acquiring a partner and building out a space, Chef Bernstein pivoted when the opportunity arose to purchase the Red Feather Kitchen space and he took his ideas and values for the ingredients and craftsmanship and applied them to "rough luxury". It was in this space that wine became an essential part of the restaurant profile. Naturally the history of food and wine are intertwined illuminating the same craftsmanship and passion that the Red Feather values were built upon.

The Future

Restaurants need to be accessible and expand their offerings to reach an ever-changing market and economy. We intend to build upon the brand values that made Red Feather a success as we endeavor into new ways of serving our community. Over the next 3 years, we see ourselves growing from an independent restaurant to a organization that runs an independent restaurant group.

About the Owner

Chef Brad Bernstein

As the son and grandson of a well-known Cincinnati food service and entertainment family, Brad Bernstein started on a fast track to the front office. But after earning his bachelor’s in finance at the University of Cincinnati, this restaurant-business scion headed straight for the kitchen, embracing a slow-food philosophy that focuses on small-scale and individual craftsmanship.

Bernstein is now the chef and sole proprietor of the Red Feather restaurant in Oakley, which Cincinnati Magazine described as “offering up dishes of high-end comfort grounded in skillful preparation and a keen awareness of seasonality."

In 2017, Chef Bernstein opened his second restaurant Postmark in the vibrant Gaslight district of Clifton, Cincinnati. The direction of Postmark steers towards approachable elegance with tapas style tasting menus, a gorgeous retail wine shop, live music nights and pop up style dinner parties for which guests can buy tickets to attend. And in step with Red Feather Kitchen, expert service for any and all who walk through the door.
