Overview

A Fresh Wind Catering is a rapidly growing company focused on the delivery of affordable, unique food options. Our slogan is specialized recipes for a happy heart. We operate out of the Commonwealth Kitchen Incubator in Youngstown, OH, crafting recipes and creating delicious foods that span from heart-healthy meals to signature soul food and fried rolls to homemade cobblers and crisps. We provide on-site catering services for parties, events, and special occasions; on-site food sales at various locations across the Mahoning Valley; and provide individual and personal food orders for regular customers.

We serve a wide range of customers, including local government entities, political events, personal events, and specialty foodservice on-location at bars, community centers, and local festivals. In Youngstown, we are known for our chicken fried rolls, which have become a staple in the community.

In addition to our work providing delicious food to our local clients, A Fresh Wind Catering is dedicated to serving our community. We believe in using our platform, and Trina’s personal background, to provide positivity to the community. Trina provides free cooking classes and demonstrations to city school children and is heavily involved in local organizations aimed at helping provide positive pathways for young men and women who need guidance and assistance to turn their lives around.

While A Fresh Wind Catering does not currently have a location to serve customers on a regular basis, we are actively seeking opportunities to expand, including more recurring on-location food service, the procurement of a food truck, and other possibilities for growth.

We are raising $50,000 at a 12% interest rate, paid over a 60-month term!

Catering and comfort food to feed the heart and soul!

The Project

For A Fresh Wind Catering, owning a food truck opens us up to an entirely different market - on-demand food service. Food trucks have not waned in their popularity, and in cities like Youngstown and Warren, the population is just catching up to larger cities that are accustomed to food trucks at most large events. Currently, A Fresh Wind relies on its catering services to provide most of its revenue, with word of mouth serving as our best and most prominent form of advertising. However, we can only provide services when we are given a group of people to serve or an event to attend; we don’t have the space to grow our business independently and build a network of everyday people who love our food.

Not only would the purchase of a food truck help A Fresh Wind Catering to grow and expand our services, we believe that the rising tide lifts all boats. There are plenty of small companies in the area that could benefit from utilizing a food truck but lack the resources to purchase their own. We intend to provide our food truck as a rental to other licensed and insured foodservice providers, ultimately helping others grow their business models. This will serve to help our small business food service community grow but also serve as an additional revenue source to A Fresh Wind Catering, to help support the payback of funds to investors who supported our vision.

Our fundraising goal is to finance the purchase of a community food truck, the equipment needed to make it operational, and the insurance and permits required to operate the truck.

  • Purchase of a used Food Truck - $37,500
  • Equipment for Food Truck - $10,000
  • Insurance and permits - $2,500

With the purchase of a food truck, A Fresh Wind will be able to reach more customers on a regular basis!

Business

History

A Fresh Wind Catering was launched in 2015 from the home kitchen of Owner, Trina Williams. Trina has been perfecting her culinary skills for over 30 years, whether feeding family, friends or the whole neighborhood for special occasions. After a chance meeting with a local nonprofit leader who fell in love with her food, Trina began pursuing the necessary steps to formally launch her business, which she did in December 2015.

From there, A Fresh Wind Catering began building a network of customers in the Youngstown area, starting with the community organizations that Trina knew personally, and growing to serve the robust community of the Mahoning Valley. Through friendships and business relationships, A Fresh Wind Catering has been invited to serve celebrities like Snoop Dogg and political leaders including US Senator Sherrod Brown.

A Fresh Wind Catering is known for providing good quality, good tasting food at reasonable prices for gatherings and events, as well as for our famous fried rolls.

Currently, Trina is operating out of Youngstown's Commonwealth Kitchen Incubator!

Future

The future of A Fresh Wind Catering involves taking the business to the next level by investing in a food truck to enable a broader service level across the Mahoning Valley. This is an area known for good food, and without a physical location for people to access our food, we are consistently missing out on customers. Once we have established the food truck and begun growing our customer based, we intend to pursue additional opportunities over the next 1-3 years, which may include the rental of a more permanent home for our catering business. Additionally, as we continue to grow, we intend to hire more staff to provide good-paying jobs to people living within the City of Youngstown who are interested in learning the business and being mentored by Trina. It is the long-term goal of A Fresh Wind Catering to build out the community around us, and bring as many people with us on our journey to success as possible.

Trina's signature chicken eggroll took Youngstown by storm, prompting her to formalize her business back in 2015!

About the Owner

Today, Trina Williams is known for her famous fried chicken rolls, but her path did not always lead to delicious food. Growing up on the South Side of Youngstown, Ohio, Trina learned how to sell drugs as a side hustle before she learned how to cook. In 2007, after a drug-related armed robbery in her home, Trina knew she had to change her path or end up dead or in jail, leaving her two children without a mother. She poured herself into cooking, taking jobs at many kitchens in the area to perfect her craft, and trusting in God to guide her way.

In 2015, while praying on her next steps, a big gust of wind blew through her house, and she knew exactly what she needed to do next. She founded A Fresh Wind Catering out of her home and began building a network of clients. Trina always knew a big part of her business would be giving back to her community and helping to lift others out of the life that almost killed her. She provides grade-school cooking demonstrations in City schools, Narcan classes through Unarm Ohio, and now provides catering services for community events, visits from political leaders, and even catered an event for Snoop Dogg!

Trina believes that any wind she took out of the City as a young woman, she can breathe back in through her service and commitment to her community.

As a community activist, Trina is on a mission to breathe "A Fresh Wind" back into the Youngstown community.
